Her lifeless body bobbed on a crest in Dripping Creek. A chill swept over him... Who killed her? Why was the town thrown into turmoil? Barbara Stafford and Weldon Trent saw horror during the war. Now they want calm, in a nice community of good people. But times are changing. It's 1947. It's the dawn of the New American Empire—a booming time of construction, expansion, rapid change and sudden wealth. Oakton, Virginia is small, but it's only miles from Capitol Hill—and the dead blond in the river is a member of Congress. This crime novel by Robert F. Dorr pits good against evil in the finest tradition of noir fiction. It takes you to a place where chaos reigns while good people struggle in the aftermath of a horrendous crime. And the shooter is still on the loose.

Robert F. Dorr is widely known for his many excellent military and aviation history books. More recently he has been writing novels. His first was a story that was infused with his knowledge of World War II, a cool alternative history science fiction novel titled HITLER’S TIME MACHINE. Dorr’s new novel CRIME SCENE: FAIRFAX COUNTY is a detective mystery set in 1947. The two main characters are a former military man and female scientist who were in Dorr’s time travel novel. After their WWII adventures, they open up a detective agency in the small , tightly knit community of Oakton, Virginia, assuming that their work would be fairly routine PI stuff. As it turns out, they get drawn into a high-profile case involving the murder of a local Congresswoman. Their investigation reveals that her murder could be tied to various potential local or national scandals. Figuring that out is the mystery part of the novel, and it’s a twisty, hard-to-guess one that is not totally solved until the final pages. CRIME SCENE: FAIRFAX COUNTY is not a slam-bang, blood-and-guts action style detective novel. It’s more in the classic noir suspense mold, with an emphasis on the characters, the setting and the era, though the plot proceeds quickly and the book is a quick read. If you’re a fellow fan of that type of story, or a fan of Robert F. Dorr’s other work, I think you’ll enjoy this new novel. I did.Product details

Crime Scene Fairfax County Robert F Dorr 9780986320026 Books Reviews
A cleverly written and thoroughly entertaining book. It starts with a murder and keeps you guessing who committed the murderer until the very end.
Crime Scene by Robert F. Dorr
Bob Dorr has recently morphed from a long-time (six decades) military and aviation historian into a novelist and made the jump without missing a step. First he brought forth Hitler's Time Machine (2015), mentioned by Jeb Bush during a public appearance (he acknowledged that he would not hesitate to go back in time, if he could, to murder the baby Hitler in his crib) and now follows that with Crime Scene, a detective novel set in 1947.
Protagonists Weldon Trent and Barbara Stafford, WWII veterans and conjugal roommates, have joined forces to establish a private investigation agency in the rural Virginia town of Oakton. Oakton is, coincidentally, where Dorr and his family have lived for many years. The violent murder of one of Virginia's U.S. Representatives sets them off on a convoluted investigation of a multi-million dollar scam concerning a federal highway project.
Dorr writes in the first person much like best-seller Nelson DeMille, giving Trent a macho, even raunchy persona, not lacking anything in the ego department. The team of Trent and Stafford may remind the reader of DeMille's John Corey and his wife Kate. The couple chase after the facts and find themselves in mortal danger from someone with a high-powered rifle. It is a fun read and we look forward with anticipation to Dorr's next detective story.
PS As an editor I must point out that in 1947 a man with yellow hair was a blond and a woman was a blonde. It makes a big difference when one is telling blonde jokes.
I miss you Bob. Love your friend, Jennifer Keen
Awesome book, intriguing plot, realistic characters, historically accurate. Blows Stone Barrington novels out of the water. A real page turner, highly recommended. Mr, Dorr has done it again. Crime Scene Fairfax County
I really enjoyed this lighthearted mystery crime novel. The first of it's kind by author Robert F. Dorr. It made me hungry for a sequel. Sadly, the author has passed, but I will have this book and some of the 80 others he has written over a very productive well lived life.
